This is the first half of my five-week journey to Chile in the winter of 2006. The itinerary included the trekking to the Volcán San Pedro in the Maule region of Central Chile and the Robinson Crusoe Island in the Juan Fernández archipielago, both rather not your usual destinations, not even "insider tips" (but all the same - or just for this reason - worth every bit of it). Moreover, it took place on a single date and became a UNIQUE experience, in every sense.

In the background is Plan de la Rade de Sn. Juan Bautista à la Pointe N.E. de l'Île de Juan Fernandez, published in 1821 by the Dèpôt général de la Marine of France. The roads plan of the only settlement on today's Isla Robinsón Crusoe shares the same page with a plan of the harbour of Valdivia (borrowed from an earlier Spanish atlas) in the Neptune des côtes occidentales d'Amérique sur le Grand Ocean from 1828. The volcano in the back is somewhat out of place, but the bays of Cumberland and El Pangal match perfectly.
